For the next two weeks, from now until April 30, we’re offering free downloads of Lokashakti’s Three Stories to anyone who becomes a fan on Facebook or subscribes to our channel on YouTube. This is our first release… and pretty much destined to become a classic. How does it work? As soon as you click the requisite “like” or “subscribe” buttons on said social networking sites, just shoot us a quick message and we’ll reply with a code for you to enter on www.digstation.com. Enter this code in the section marked “Redeem Download Cards” and the download should start automatically. Included are the three songs from the EP, and all the album art you would get if you bought a CD (which, of course, you can also do here). So tell your friends!! And don’t forget — this is only until the end of April, so email us soon!!!

Our new site, Protest Music, now up!
We hereby announce the launch of our first new project in two years: Protest Music, available worldwide at www.protestmusic.org. Our attempt at sparking more of a conversation about political and socially conscious music, the site intends to promote artists from around the world doing amazing work, all while trying to increase the recognition of protest music as its own distinct genre, able to stand up against any other. Read more about the project here.
If you think we’re on the right track, then by all means support our work — you can “like” Protest Music on Facebook, follow the site on Twitter, or show solidarity on Lokashakti. You can even subscribe to the site’s RSS feed or sign up to receive periodic emails from us about the kinds of things going on over there.
You can also write for Protest Music, especially if you have ideas for a post, or send us material to review (read more on the About page). Finally, if you’d like to help make sure we continue to keep these articles coming, consider making a tax-deductible donation, which you can learn more about here. Thanks! Enjoy! Let us know what you think!
Welcome to Lokashakti Records online!
Welcome to the online home of Lokashakti Records, a nonprofit record label based in New York, promoting innovative and incisive protest music from around the world. Take a look around, and if you like what we do, you can keep on top of what’s happening by following us on Facebook and YouTube.
We’re actively seeking a couple things right now, so if you know of anyone who might fall under either of the following two categories, please be in touch:
- Currently we’re looking for people to get involved in helping to grow and promote our record label — either by way of a formal internship, or anyone just looking for a unique volunteer opportunity. We guarantee valuable experience in a niche of the music industry with a ton of potential, but that doesn’t receive nearly the attention it deserves.
We’re also recruiting other artists to join the Lokashakti Records crew. If you know about people writing amazing political and socially conscious music — especially anyone who could benefit from having a record label behind them devoted to promoting just that — we want you to tell us about them right away.
